Welcome to my Website, I suppose I should get around to doing more stuff on here, Oh well, I'll add a bit. I have been doing my family tree (See also my family tree page) and have tranced (on my dads side) back to to the early 1800's but have come to a bit of a stop, in Ireland. Thomas Cox (B 1819) came from Ireland. On my mums side I have it back to John Burrow (B 1663). My mums mum, Elsie Lorenz was one of 8 Children to Oscar & Emily Lorenz. Now, if you look up the Eccles (Manchester, England) Ale Trail and the pub the Albert Edward, you will find this note:-
Following the sinking of this Lusitania by a German U-boat with the loss of 1,200 lives, anti-German feelings were running high in Eccles. On Tuesday 15 May 1915, violence erupted. A crowd some 2,000 strong had gathered at Lower Cross Square, where the war memorial is now. The landlord of the Albert was then a Mr Oscar Lorenz, a naturalised German. Anticipating trouble he had hurriedly left the town with his family, quite wisely as it turned out. The mob attacked the pub, smashed every window and attempted to wreck the house. The police managed to disperse them but not before some patriotic citizens had stolen bottles of spirits and cigars.
Oscar Lorenz was my great grandad!
So what else do I do in my spare time, well, I'm a Trustee of Freshfields Animal Rescue Centre and have volunteered about 160 Barclaycard staff over 9 years , in a two day period, to help paint and decorate the centre. We had 2 days in 2013 organising 8 projects and spending nearly £4000 on the centre. I was nominated in 2010 and 2011 for a Barclays Chairmans award for my volunteering, after I retired in 2019 I was honoured to be asked to become a trustee.
Freshfields will never put a healthy animal to sleep. They look after cats, dogs, pigs, chickens, goats, sheep, seagulls, hedgehogs, pot bellied pigs, budgies, rabbits, they even looked after 6 Llamas!!!! They care for just about every animal you can think of.....
I'm also big on theatre being a member of the Southport Dramatic Club (SDC), be it on stage, back stage, Stage Managing the Sound Bridge or even serving on the bar.
I also have a cat, Jake, who lives with me and my wife Wendy. He is a rescue cat, and luckily enough chose to live with us.
